This chapter consist of two parts.
First a historical introduction about the Dutch history that tells about the history of the church, the coming of Protestantism and the rise of Baptist-believe, this all against the background of the wars the Dutch population had with the Spanish army's of king-ruler Fillips II...
The second part tells about the incredible history of Giethoorn in these times, complete with battles, firestorms, heretical gatherings, a disappeared church bell and a tragical love story on a castle...

Floods

For many ages the 'Zuiderzee' had free play on the barely diked lands of Vollehove.
Often it went wrong and hearth and home where swept away in the storm tide.

Around 1900

About the history around 1900 many has been saved and so many things you can find in this chapter: the peat-strikes, the forced shopping practice, the start of a cooperative store, the first electricity - later the first tapwater...

Fanfare

Of course the world-famous movie "Fanfare" (1958) of Bert Haanstra has found a place in the history of Giethoorn...
And of course you can hear the film music by the one and only "Giethoornse Fanfare ".
